EU Responds to concerns about "One of Us" Campaign

You may remember that ACE was party to a Statement sent to the EU Commission expressing concerns about the "One of Us" Campaign which seeks to ban all financing of activities that presuppose the destruction of human embryos, including stem cell research. The EU has responded, and The Wellcome Trust has now released a Statement regarding this.

Support for Research in Stem Cells & Reproduction

You may have heard of the ‘One of Us’ Citizens’ Initiative, which is seeking a ban on all financing of activities that presuppose the destruction of human embryos, including stem cell research. A number of interested bodies, including ACE, have released a joint statement asking the European Parliament and European Commission to oppose this campaign.

ACE's opposition to Auxogyn's Patent on Time-Lapse

22 October 2013

Auxogyn (founded by Stanford University professors) have filed a patent with the European Patent Office which aims to protect not only the time-lapse equipment but a selection of cytokinetic time-frames used in embryo selection.

ACE is supporting the formal opposition filed by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) ahead of the closing date for objections on 23rd October, 2013.

Professor Sir Robert Edwards 1925-2013

It is with great sadness to us all that we learnt of the death of the Nobel Prize winner Professor Sir Robert ‘Bob' Edwards. ACE would like to pass on our collective condolences to his family and friends. Bob was the foundation of our science, who, working with Patrick Steptoe in Oldham and later in Cambridge went on to pioneer work that led to the first successful birth of an IVF ‘test tube' baby on July 25th 1978. Bob was always an advocate of the key role the scientist must play in a successful IVF service and has left us a legacy so precious that it will touch the ...
